In May, the Art League of Ocean City (Ocean City Center for the Arts) will host Environmental Visions, a show of photographs by students in two of my Environmental Studies classes at Salisbury University.
Students in ENVR 205 - Art, Nature, Culture who opted for the photography project had to take at least one photo a day for at least 30 days, and then submit a portfolio of all the pictures in electronic format and their choice of three photos in printed format. They also had to write a reflective essay describing their creative process and ways in which this project helped to shape their perspectives on the natural world.
Students in ENVR 460 - Topics in Chesapeake Bay Studies were instructed in and tested on journalistic and photographic techniques. Then they went out into Bay-area communities to report on issues, conduct interviews, and capture images. The result was the first edition of the online magazine Chesapeake Stories: The Bay in Words and Pictures.
Opening reception for the show will be on Friday May 4 at 5PM at the gallery on 94th Street in Ocean City. The show runs through May 26.
